RIFT Quick Reference to RIFT Races

As RIFT is still in beta, this information is subject to change. The details below are up-to-date as of the Feb 4th patch notes for Beta 6.

There are six races in the world of Telara, three per faction. The Mathosians and the Eth are the human races.

Each race has three skills:

  • a special ability which may be passive (Dwarves) but generally is active with a 5 minute cooldown
  • a trait which enhances statistics
  • and a racial resistance

Bahmi

Faction: Defiant

Racial Skills

Active Ability:

Mighty Leap
Leaps at the selected area. Cannot be used in combat.

Passive Trait

Sefir of Strength
Increases Strength by 10

Racial Resistance

Shalastir Heritage
Air resistance increased by 20

Lore

When they first arrived on Telara during the Blood Storm Wars, the Bahmi’s ancestors were regarded with suspicion and fear. Only the Eth welcomed their coming, more intrigued than frightened by the Shalastir’s planar origins. The Bahmi have never forgotten who first befriended them, and their alliance with the Eth has remained strong through the centuries. This bond, a mutual disdain for the gods of the Vigil, and their continued tradition of elemental ancestor worship, all led the Bahmi to join the Defiant.

The Bahmi are best described as the brawn in a group largely dedicated to science and magic. Yet among volatile allies, their race is the most even-tempered, and when methods go astray in pursuit of the Defiant’s greater goals, it will often be a Bahmi who stands up to right the course.

Dwarves

Faction: Guardian

Racial Skills

Passive Ability

Density
Dwarves can fall twice the distance of other races safely

Passive Trait

Bahralt’s Mettle
Increases Strength by 10

Racial Resistance

Miracle of Hammerknell
Water resistance increased by 20

Lore

The Dwarves are a fallen people now. Without a homeland, they wandered for many years, taking shelter with the Mathosians, Elves, and even the Eth, as few towns would turn away a dwarven craftsman looking for a home. When Borrin Gammult returned as an Ascended Guardian, many Dwarves rallied to his banner in Sanctum, vowing to build a new home with the Vigil’s blessing, and to seek redemption for the sins of Hammerknell. Holy Sanctum owes much of its beauty and strength to the efforts of Dwarven heroes, mortal and Ascended, whose genius never faded even as their hope guttered to embers.

Ethian

Faction: Defiant

Racial Skills

Active Ability:

Agility
Increases movement speed by 70% for 15 seconds. Cannot be used in combat.

Passive Trait

Sun’s Fortune
Increases Intelligence by 10

Racial Resistance

Desert Dweller’s Birthright
Earth resistance increased by 20

Lore

A desert people, the Eth had a long history of self-sufficiency and were skilled at shaping their environment to better sustain life. With sourcestone as fuel, the Eth thrived, pushing the limits of science and magic. Eventually, the Eth toppled their own empire to keep the compromised technology out of the hands of the Dragon Cults. Modern-day Eth are the driving force behind the Defiants’ push to reclaim these lost arts for the defense of Telara. And if this should bring about a second golden age for their people, so much the better.

High Elves

Faction: Guardian

Racial Skills

Active Ability:

Angelic Flight
Flies toward the selected area. Cannot be used in combat.

Passive Trait

Tavril’s Grace
Increases Wisdom by 10

Racial Resistance

Grace of the Forest
Life resistance increased by 20

Lore

Those who still held to their task called themselves the High Elves. They kept the covenant, and from their home in Silverwood they walked the wild spaces of Telara, enforcing Tavril’s will with arrow’s sting and arcane wrath. Secretive, keeping their agenda even from the people they protected, the High Elves were often treated with suspicion and fear. High Elves have ever taken the long view and did not always work towards the same goal as the local farmers or sheriff: was the Elf there to save the villagers from the wolves, or the wolves from the villagers?

Kelari

Faction: Defiant

Racial Skills

Active Ability:

Camouflage
The Kelari transforms into a fox for up to 30 seconds, causing enemies to ignore them and despawning any pets the Kelari may have. This ability cannot be used in combat.

Passive Trait

Flame’s Ferocity
Increases Dexterity by 10

Racial Resistance

Legacy of the Fire Islands
Fire resistance increased by 20

Lore

The Kelari bring to the Defiant a fitting sort of spiritualism. While the Eth explored forbidden technology, and the Bahmi honed their bodies to physical perfection, the Kelari were making pacts with mighty magical beings, trading services for power.

This spiritual fervor has easily transferred to a passion for magitech among the young Kelari, who have proven valuable in magitech workshops, despite the grousing of older Elves. Of course, a Kelari is much more likely to simply try out “what might work” than conduct careful experiments, so the Eth grow somewhat nervous when their Elven allies handle machinery.

Mathosian

Faction: Guardian

Racial Skills

Active Ability:

Motivational Roar
Increases the movement speed of the Mathosian and nearby group members by 30% for 10 seconds. This ability cannot be used in combat.

Passive Trait

Thedeor’s Will
Increases Dexterity by 10

Racial Resistance

Legacy of the Shade
Death resistance increased by 20

Lore

As the battles between sorcerers and knights of the crown ravaged the northern half of Telara, the elder brother Aedraxis resorted to dread magic that fractured the protective ward around Telara and pulled the Plane of Death over the land, forever morphing him into an undead king of horrors, and destroying most of the Mathosian homeland in a magical disaster known as the Shade. Many of the loyal followers fled the scourge of the Shade with Zareph and eventually founded the great city of Port Scion. True to their oaths and duty to the line of kings, many Mathosians tragically fled north with their newly crowned liege Aedraxis Mathos, serving an unspeakable evil that now festers in the hearts of all Telarans.
