Island Life Powerleveling with Cabbages

The primary way to level in Island Life is to plant crops and harvest them. In most cases, the crops you plant take several hours or days to ripen and gain you experience in three different ways.

First you have to till the land. This costs 10 gold per plot and gains you one experience point. Now you plant your crops gaining up to two experience points per plot and later you harvest them, gaining an extra experience point only if someone has fertilized the plot.

Assuming you wish to level quickly, the answer is cabbages. These give no experience for planting but are ready in only five minutes; meaning that you can gain the 1 exp. per plot for tilling every five minutes.

Cabbages sell for a profit of 2 gold (after taking into account the cost of tilling the land) so at first sight, this would imply that you could make a profit of 2 gold every 5 minutes per plot or 576 gold in a 24 hour period, if you played continuously. Similarly, it would seem that you could make 268 exp. in a full day of playing.

There is, however a flaw in this calculation. It takes around 2.3 secs. to till a plot, 1.9 secs to plant it and 3.5 secs to harvest it. Assuming you are working a full field, the planting time can be ignored as it will take place during the first plot’s growing time. Nevertheless, you have to add an average of 5.8 secs to the time it takes to cycle through a single plot.

This means that, were you to play a full 24 hours, you would make 133 full harvests, gaining 133 exp and 266 gold, per plot. Whilst this is higher than any other way to make exp, it is not as far ahead of other crops as at first sight. In practice, you will not be playing 24×7 so you will make as much with longer duration crops.

Below is a table of the crops for the first 20 levels of Island Life, together with the duration and the experience and gold made per day per plot, assuming you are there to replant as soon as your crop matures.

Level Crop Duration Cost Yield Exp Profit/Day Exp/Day
0 Cabbages 5 mins 5 17 0 267 133.3
1 Raspberries 4 hrs 10 35 2 88 17.6
2 Asparagus 1 day 15 63 2 38 3.0
3 Tomatoes 2 days 25 88 2 26 1.5
4 Carrots 6 hrs 40 60 2 39 11.8
5 Onions 8 hrs 50 68 2 24 8.9
6 Eggplant 4 days 70 275 2 49 0.7
7 Beets 12 hrs 45 96 1 81 4.0
8 Strawberries 2 hrs 20 46 1 183 22.9
9 Pineapples 3 days 75 207 2 41 1.0
10 Blackberries 10 hrs 55 96 1 78 4.8
11 Cantaloupes 2 days 75 198 2 56 1.5
12 Edible Mushrooms 1 day 70 162 2 82 3.0
14 Grapes 6 hrs 50 85 1 98 7.9
15 Plumeria 1 day 75 159 2 74 3.0
16 Potatoes 16 hrs 65 160 1 127 3.0
17 Broccoli 4 hrs 50 91 2 182 11.7
18 Aloe 4 days 130 348 2 52 0.7
19 Watermelon 1 day 85 270 2 174 3.0

My advice is to work out when you will be able to return and to plant a crop which will be ready in about that time. Then, when you have time to play for a while, plant cabbages and go fertilize your neighbors’ fields, returning to harvest every 5 minutes. When you get bored, plant a longer duration crop.

hi , this is a good game concept, and the graphics are awesome. However there needs to be some work on how issues are dealt with. Taking items that were available to buy with coins and changing them to buxs items is an example. So many bought these items with coins then devs decided to make them all buxs items. Never in playing any FB game have I seen anything like that.

Developers did recognize that this was a poor judgement call and have assured players it would not happen again. Since the game is so awesome, I can overlook this as a player. It was a bad call, they listened and heard their players and have vowed not to do something like that again.

On the other hand, making the rainbow 6 bux seemed a bit cheeky and offering 1,000 gold if I’ll let them spam my Facebook Wall has put me right off. :(
