EQ2 Icon Tradeskilling in Freeport

Starting a tradeskill in the world of Norrath is fairly straight-forward but it can be helpful to know where the various NPCs are located for the various starting locations.

When you begin tradeskilling, you are unskilled and referred to as an artisan. As you progress, you will be asked to choose your subclass (scholar, outfitter, craftsman) and eventually your class which will allow you to progress to level 20 and begin doing tradeskill writs.

Regardless of zone, the general process is the same:

  1. Speak to a trainer or a wholesaler who will give you level two and the level two book
  2. Speak to a tradeskill delegate (marked with a title of “Tradeskill Tutorial”) who will step you through a tutorial on crafting. This is a set of mini-quests which offer a substantial amount of tradeskill experience. Even if you know the tradeskilling process, it is worth going through the tutorial as it allows for incredibly fast leveling.
  3. Return to the trainer at level 9 and level 19 to confirm your sub-class and tradeskill class.

Tradeskill areas (but not instances) will also have a Tradeskill Career Counsellor who will allow you to change your tradeskill class choice (be aware this will reset you to level nine (artisan) and remove all your sub-class and class recipes).

Here is the list of tradeskill NPCs in Freeport for a quick start:

Outpost of the Overlord

Arthur Merrin, a Skilled Artisan and Crafter, is ready to answer your questions and will offer you a copy of the Handbook of the Coalition of Tradesfolke to place in your house. If you leave the island without speaking to him, you will receive the book upon arriving at your starting village.

He is located next to the tradeskill instance at -21,-4,156.

Garfa Gillgrinder, the wholesaler inside the Tradeskiller’s Workshop instance, will start your tradeskilling career by giving you level two and a copy of Artisan Essentials Volume 2 so that you can tradeskill on the island. If you leave the island without speaking to him, you will need to speak to a Crafting Trainer.

The Outpost of the Overlord does not have a tradeskill delegate so you can not do the tutorial until you arrive in Freeport.

West Freeport

Matthias Zoe is a Crafting Trainer right inside the doorway of the new premises for the Coalition of Tradesfolke. He will offer you your level 2 essential artisan’s handbook and increase your level to 2. Speak to him at levels 9 and 19 to choose your tradeskill specialization.

He is located at 30,-18,76.

Vissa D’Dbth is a tradeskill delegate who will take you through the tutorial. This covers crafting from levels one through nine and each quest rewards with tradeskill experience and the essential artisan books, saving you both time and money! Vissa is in the south side of the building – use the door located at 28,-18,100 or go up the stairs near Matthias and then back down the stairs to the southwest to reach her.

Vissa is located at 31,19,111

Jonak Harvester is a rather fearsome looking Tradeskill Career Counsellor who will nonetheless be happy to reset your specialization for you if you would like to learn a new trade. Be warned: this will set your tradeskill ability back to level 9 artisan.

Jonak is located upstairs at 33,-12,104

Freeport Villages

Every Freeport village has a tradeskill instance with a trainer standing next to the trapdoor entrance to the tradeskill zone. These are marked on your waypoint window or you can check the instance list on EQ2i The trainer has the artisan books for sale and will take note of your specialisation choices at level 9 and 19. Once you have entered the instance, you can speak to the wholesaler near the entrance for level two and a copy of Artisan Essentials Volume 2 to scribe. Stepping through the eastern doorway, you’ll find a tradeskill delegate for the tutorial to get to level 9. You will need to travel to West Freeport in order to speak to a Tradeskill Counsellor.

Secondary tradeskills (tinkering and transmuting) can only be learned in Butcherblock.
