LotRO Icon Racial Deeds for Fast Travel

At level 29 every race on Middle-Earth gets a deed which will allow them to return to their racial home - very useful for fast travel!

This deed is always the second in a set, so you must complete the initial deed (slaying 50 of the same monsters) before you will see the deed appear in your deed journal.

You will have to kill 150 of a specific monster, as listed below. You can kill these monsters in any zone in the game and they can be any level. So you may wish to rush through the quest by choosing the lowest level monsters you can find - or increase your experience rate by choosing the highest level monsters that you can take on.

The other issue to take into consideration is whether you can complete a virtue deed at the same time. [More...]

LotRO Icon LotRO Keyboard Tips

Keystrokes in LotRO that I couldn’t live without

[Backspace] to target nearest the NPC. If you use [Tab], you get the NPC closest to your current target, not the NPC closest to you. That makes it easy to tab out of the encounter accidentally. [Backspace] will always give the NPC closest to you. If you are already targeted on the NPC closest to you, it will leave your target alone.

[Delete] to target the nearest object. [More...]

LotRO Icon Yuletide Woes in Hobbiton

There is a special winter quest in Lord of the Rings Online to get a Yule-tree that you can place in your garden. It’s a fast and easy run-around quest but it will only be available until Christmas, so don’t miss your chance.

Speak to Hal Hornblower at the Hobbiton Stables. He’ll tell you the terrible news that Lobelia Sackville-Baggins is in charge of the Hobbiton Yule-feast and offer you [More...]

LotRO Icon Pocket Items

It’s terrible, going around with nothing in my pocketses. It just seems all wrong. This is partly because there aren’t crafted baubles, so it’s an easy slot to miss. My main has an age-old item that desperately needs upgrading and most of my alts don’t have anything at all!

In order to keep organised, I’ve made this list of pocket items, ordered by level. [More...]

LotRO Icon Alias for ;loc

LotRO has a great system where you can assign text and actions to specific keys using the alias and shortcut functions. There are a lot of uses for these but the most critical one is to get ;loc into a sensible channel and on a hotkey.

Typing ;loc will give you your coordinates in the game, however it sends the coordinates to the default channel, which is less than optimal. A better option is to send the coordinates as a tell to yourself to avoid spamming strangers. To do this, you want to make a command that will send you a tell with the coordinates. You can do this with the following alias:

/alias ;myloc /tell <charactername> ;loc

So for example, my alias says

/alias ;myloc /tell Taymar ;loc

Now when I type ;myloc it sends me a tell with my current location so that I don’t spam other channels. This is an improvement but ;myloc is a little bit long to type. I could make the alias shorter but it would be more useful to add it as a hotkey.

What you want to do is to make a shortcut (hotkey), assign it to your lovely alias (;myloc) and tell it which key it should be in (48 which equates to shift=).

You can do this with the following command:

/alias shortcut ;myloc 48

Now you will find a hotkey for your ;myloc alias in the final hotkey on your shift bar (that is, shift=). From there, you can pick it up and drop it into whatever slot you want.

I always leave the final slot on the shift set available. I do this so that I can always create shortcuts into 48 rather than working out the correct number. It’s much easier to simply drag the hotkey from there and drop it into the slot where you want it rather than work out which number you need.

Want to know more?

This particular one is a bit odd but because you are adding a hotkey of an alias which calls a different function. Usually you would use /shortcut 48 <command> to add a hotkey.

I found this explanation of aliases and quick slot shortcuts very useful and recommend you read that for more uses of aliases and shortcuts.
